Oh, I was referring to the method of setting the global subdivs to 0 and relying on the min shading rate to do the work which is a vray 3 thing. I might start a new thread to avoid this getting confusing.

Can you tell me exactly what you changed? I'm a little confused now with all the rendering settings being thrown around.

Vlado's Universal Settings FTW, like I've been saying for years!

I simply used Vlado's universal method, like Peter pointed out. Basically, BF+LC with default settings.

I've obviously been missing a lot here. Time to get with it!

min shading rate 16, global subdivs multiplier 0 to remove any subdivs anywhere else, and AA color threshold 0.007. I used the min shading rate and the aa color threshold to tune into things. So, with these two spinners, I got really fast and clean renders.

so I take it you have upgraded to 3 and are liking it, so far?

Is the minimum shading rate you refer to the same as the "min samples" under DMC Sampler?

Yes. it's under the Settings Tab. I set the Global subdivs to 0, which overrides all the material subdivs. I start off with the Min samples at 8, and if I am getting noise, I'll double that. The Adaptive image sampler is 1/100 (can be a lot less, but 100 is safe) and color threshold is .007.

Oh, I thought min shading rate was a 3 feature...

Thanks for the tips. I have a product rendering scene that is especially difficult to get noise free. Usually I don't mind a bit of noise in arch scenes but this one I would prefer to be cleaner. The product is made of a black reflective plastic and no matter what I seem to try, even your settings above and cranking up some values, I can't seem to get a noise free render. Going to have to keep trying on this one...

Can you get me your scene or part of it to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can see what's going on?

                              Best regards,
