Would you like to see this bundled with V-Ray? It's a cloth shader developed for IKEA, with a V-Ray implementation. The only caveat is that I have no clear idea how the loom files are produced.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
Yes, that sounds pretty awesome! Would we be able to get it for Vray for Maya too? (I see it currently only exists for Vray w/ Max)

    • In regards to the thunderloom plugin is there a version for max2017 available?

      @Lele
Those vrscans examples are looking fantastic.

I managed to compile it, but there are some crashes and I didn't have a lot of time to investigate. I will post a version here on the forum for you to try out when I have it.

              • So I've been playing around with the AlSurface in Arnold, and found something...

                Cryptomatte is FRIGGIN' AMAZING!!!
Having worked with both Multimattes and deep files, I have to say Cryptomatte is hands down the best system I have seen for pulling mattes. Wow!

Vlado, I recall you said you were working on implementing Cryptomatte for Vray. Any updates as to when that might be ready?
I can start a "Cryptomatte RE for Vray pleaseeeeeeee" thread if you like

Oh, and I want it for Maya not Max (you Max guys always get stuff first, lol).

                    • Some friendly suggestions on the default settings for the AlSurface (referring to the nightlies for Maya):

                      SSS2 weight: 0
                      SSS3 weight:0
                      reflection2 strength:0
                      reflection1 distribution: ggx
                      reflection2 distribution: ggx
sampling should grey-out when "use local subdivs" is off

These are all based on the default settings of the original shader.

                      • I basically mirrored the defaults of the Arnold shader. Would it make sense to have them different?

The settings I suggested are the defaults for the AlSurface in Arnold with Maya 2017. Maybe they are different in Max?

The reasoning of having the weights/strength set to zero on reflection2 and the additional sss layers is that by default these would be off, so you start with just one sss layer and just one spec lobe. Makes it faster and simpler. Also GGX being default is because it is nicer/newer/better than Beckmann.

                            Just something to consider. YMMV.

                              • Vlado, what are the differences between AlHair and VrayHair?

The hair in this paper look really smooth, can AlHair achieve a similar result? I've tried with VrayHair but not even close. I find it particularly hard to achieve a smooth, super white looking fur as in the examples from the paper.

I remember the dead Lagoa Renderer having some rather nice hair renders.
