    Hello,

    I reworked shading and lighting for this scene using Vray GPU and ACES 1.2
    Rendered on 2x 3090s, around 20 minutes in 5k resolution
    No post processing, only Vray Lens effects in the frame buffer

        And ACES version below, (Reworked the fabrics using Sheen, UVW randomizer on paint, ACES, Multisub texture for variation on leaves, wood, metals on the wall..etc)
        This more about Vray Next vs Vray 5, I could have spent some considerable time in Vray/Photoshop to fix the first render.. and the old hacks of using falloff maps in diffuse to fake the sheen effect, the workflow is just better and faster in Vray 5
        About ACES, I think everyone should adapt to that in Vray.. Tone Mapping and wide gamut rendering are very powerful, and the workflow is very easy in Vray it takes couple of clicks to convert scenes.

          Night and day difference for sure.
          I took one look at that shaderball scene and needed no convincing

          The hardest part was trying to figure out where to actually get the files from Github....they should make it a little easier

            I Have seen your work in vray gpu and vray maya and looks really amazing!!!

            The bedroom render looks very impresive, very realistic, i use vray for sketchup and render with vray gpu, i use 2 2080 ti with nvlink.

            Thank You very much for taking your time showing a comparison with srgb and aces, and aces looks amazing, it has more light bounces, more color bleeding, lights look better, and the colors... Oh man!!! Amazing colors with aces... In vray for sketchup we don't have this option and i already talked with Konstantin that this is something important, i hope in the future we can have this option for vray for sketchup and Also Muhammed Hamed may i ask how things are going with vray light cache in gpu, i AM almost crazy to use this option!!!, i have a i7 8700k and it is not that powerful, light cache with cpu is very slow but with this new option things are going to change... For vray for sketchup, i hope we can have this option soon!!!

              I'm using the latest stable build for Max/Maya, Light Cache works nicely for me. It is a big upgrade to the GPU IPR in my view, IPR is now super fast
              I use 1000 subdivs for IPR and 3k for final rendering on this interior. I spent hours working on the scene in IPR without a single crash
              And yes, it is much faster than CPU Light Cache

              I'm not sure which version Vray for Sketch uses, the recent stable builds have good GPU LC .. fewer issues than before, you can give that a try

              And about ACES, I have been using this workflow for 2 years now and I'm super happy with it. Once you adapt, you will never look back and I learned a lot of things throughout this journey. Hopefully you guys get it soon in Vray Sketchup

                  Maybe I have my ACES setup wrong....but its the defaults shipped with Maya 2022 and Vray 5....but my renders always look super saturated compared to sRGB. Is this to be expected? Most, if not all of my work is making cg cars drop into photo backplates. I just dont find the ACES matches the plates using the default maya 2022 + vray 5 settings. I havnt looked into it at all tbh, and Ive just had to tweak some things to make it look and work like Maya did in 2020.

                    Hello!

                    It is recommended to use ACES through OCIO in Maya 2022(like older versions of Maya), even though it ships with an ACES setup. This is what I do at least, as I use OCIO in Nuke and many other apps so everything uses the same OCIO config and the images would match

                    My first guess is that this has to do with the IDTs you use, wrong ones tend to make colors more saturated. If you can share a scene or some screenshots of a render ACES vs sRGB, I will be able to help you

                    Backplate needs to have an IDT of "Output sRGB" ,so the ACES tonemapping doesn't affect it. This is probably what most people struggle with on ACES, having a Logo to match or a backplate

                      I have a question since the release of vray 5 for sketchup, in the new VFB appers a new option tone mapping We don't have color management as vray for 3d max and maya... So in the new tone mapping appears new option... aces cg... But should i use these option??? we don't have color
                      Management in vray for sketchup... So what kind of benefits can we have when we choose aces Cg instead of linear srgb...??? Also in the tone mapping option there is an option called log space... When should i tick or untick that option, only when i use aces??? i don't want to have textures in ACES and lights in srgb... It is going to look incorrect.

                      I think sometines chaosgroup team needs to explain that... Because this is diferent from sketchup, rhyno, maya, max and Houdini...

                        You don't need to use ACEScg as tone mapping space, in the filmic layer. You should keep it on Linear sRGB, it will get the job done (because you are rendering in linear sRGB)
                        This option basically tells Vray which RGB primaries the EXR is using on how the filmic layer will work. Using ACEScg at this step doesn't add much, it is best to adapt to the entire ACES workflow byhaving ACEScg as your rendering space.


                        So what kind of benefits can we have when we choose aces Cg instead of linear srgb...???
                        Not much honestly, ACES is not just about this tone mapping step. ACES goes beyond that, you need to have your textures, lights, kelvin temperature..etc in ACEScg to adapt to this workflow fully. Vray takes care of that in Max/Maya , fingers crossed you can wait for that to be brought in Sketchup

                        Also in the tone mapping option there is an option called log space
                        I don't use that option myself, most likely you will not use it either

                        "A log profile, or logarithmic profile, is a shooting profile, or gamma curve, found on some digital video cameras that gives a wide dynamic and tonal range, allowing more latitude to apply colour and style choices. The resulting image appears washed out, requiring color grading in post-production, but retains shadow and highlight detail that would otherwise be lost if a regular linear profile had been used that clipped shadow and highlight detail. The feature is mostly used in filmmaking and videography."

                        Log space has its uses in some workflows, but here is a video on using Filmic with ACEScg to control highlight compression .. This is how I use ACES in Vray 5

                            Finally i understood how does it work, thanks again for taking your time explaining aces and the tone mapping in the vray frame buffer, until we dont have the color management as maya and max it would be useless aces cg in sketchup, but as you said fingers croosed that we can have hopefully this amazing feature.

                              Hi Luis,

                              The conversions are part of Vray's 5 core, it is probably just about having the UI for the ACES control in Vray Sketchup. It shouldn't be hard to implement, hopefully they add that soon
                              On the other hand you can still work in ACECcg in Vray Next(or anything that doesn't support OCIO natively), the workflow is much harder involving manual convertion of your textures externally and not using Vray sky or color temperature
                              It is probably best to wait, the old manual workflow for ACES was not great. It is much much easier/better in Vray 5
