  • Phoenix FD 3.13 for 3ds Max and Maya

    Hey fluid people

Time has come for another Phoenix upgrade - today we release Phoenix 3.13 for 3ds Max and Maya.

    The most important additions are:
    - Support for 3ds Max 2020 - same-day release with V-Ray for 3ds Max as well!
    - Faster liquid simulations - now FLIP liquids should be significantly faster than Phoenix 3.12. The scenes we tested simulate around 30% more quickly now, and some extreme cases are two times faster than before.
    - OpenVDB 5 support - we upgraded our OpenVDB library from version 3 to version 5, so now you can load and save VDB particles! At last full Phoenix liquid simulations can be written to VDBs containing the foam and splash as well. Also VDB points can be loaded from other software and can be rendered via the Phoenix Particle Shader. In 3ds Max you can also emit fluid from such particles using the Phoenix Sources. Note that all 3ds Max versions support the new VDB format, but only Maya 2018 is able to use the new VDB format.
    - Fire Opacity Texture - before, only the fire color could be modulated or replaced by a texture, and now this can be done for the fire opacity in Use Own Opacity as well.
    - Alembic Vertex Velocity - now ABC meshes can be exported from 3ds Max and Maya with vertex velocity, so they can be rendered with motion blur in other software even without Phoenix installed. The VRayProxy in latest V-Ray releases is also updated so it can load and render with motion blur ABC meshes from Phoenix as well. Here is how to do it: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cachetoAlembic, https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cachetoAlembic
    - Ocean Stereo Rendering - ocean meshes can now be rendered using the Stereoscopic camera
