  • Ocean Level on .vdb with adaptive grid.

    Heya

I have a .vdb of a flat tank exported from houdini that i'm trying to render as an ocean in phoenix in 3dsmax. The vdb seems to have a changing grid size so when I set an ocean level it changes everyframe as a percentage of the grid i.e. it bounces up and down all over the show.

Any ideas of what I can do to fix this?

    Cheers

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

this is on our to-do list. You can try to simulate it back in Houdini with a grid size locked by Z-axis. This is the only thing I can suggest you as some kind of workaround.

FYI it seems like the grid size is locked on my sim but the process of compressing the fluid and exporting to vdb. seems to autocrop the bounding to where the data is.

Well, really sorry but I've got no solution for that.

I have a possible workaround if other people get a similar problem. In Houdini you can use a VDB_Activate node to manually set the bounding volume. There might be better ways to do it but my quick test shows it coming into phoenix ok.
