im interested, what happens if you put the embree image over the standard image in photoshop and set the blending mode to "difference" .. its really identical? if not, where are the differences ? im guessing just in the grain pattern.

im planning to test this myself but im in deadline mode so will have to wait.

We'll get to that next week, I hope.

For the moment - no. Only the production V-Ray renderer is affected, regardless of what actual GI algorithm is used.

Well, I couldn't wait until next week So I added versions compiled with AVX instructions to the download. I'm not sure if this has any effect on the performance though.

dammit i got quite ahead of myself.. i dont actually have an avx compatible cpu. so somebody else will have to test it... from what little i have read regarding avx, it should make quite a big difference no?

I don't know, it didn't seem to make much of a difference on the particular machine I was testing, but I will test a few others as well.

the 5530 is i believe pre-sandy bridge, so it wouldnt support the AVX instruction set.. but the embree raycaster should work just fine... avx should make it go faster, but nobody has confirmed it yet..

I just tried the embree helper on an exisiting scene and it crashes every time.
I am going to try it on another couple of scenes to see if I can get it going.
