  • ForestPack 7 Scattered Lights Limitations

Dear V-Ray and Forest Pack users,

As you may have seen, the upcoming version of Forest Pack will be able to scatter lights.
We believe this will open the plugin up to many exciting new workflows, in fact, we've already seen some fantastic stuff by some of our beta testers.
If you fancy trying it out then the installer is publicly available to all users with an active maintenance plan, but before you dive in, we wanted to mention a couple of limitations that V-Ray users should be aware of.

    1. First of all, instanced lights aren't working with VRayMultiSubTex or Forest Pack colour. We're working with Chaos Group to resolve this (Chaos Group Ticket VMAX-8645):
This means at the moment that you're not able to use a Forest Color map to randomise the light colour or intensity (as a workaround, you could try scattering multiple lights with different settings).

How it works now VS Expected result

    2. Secondly, lights can't be animated and will take their transforms and parameters from the first frame (ChaosGroup Ticket VMAX-10079).

We're working with Chaos group to resolve both these small limitations, but in the meantime, we hope you find the new light scattering features really handy.
Please feel free to let us know in this thread how you get on, what you like, what you don't, and any issues that you spot.

    Many thanks,
    The iToo Software team.

Great news indeed, will the same feature be added to RailClone?
      A.

Nice one. It'll definitely be nice to have the FPcolour map working. As an aside will this functionality be coming to railclone too? Maybe you can already scatter light with RC, but I don't think so. Randomisation on lights would help speed up rendering on big buildings where I used RCcolour map on a light material to randomize the interior lighting.

Edit: oops Ashley just asked that!

I can't get the scattered light to work with distributed rendering. Is this also a limitation or am I just doing it wrong? It doesn't work with any lights, vray, standard, ies.

yeeha68 There is something the matter. I'll investigate and write back.

EDIT: yeeha68 After a bit of testing, it seems to work fine. Best you send the scene in question (address it to me and include a link to this thread) so we can take a look. Before that, check your Slave machine's FP version (match it to the workstation) and licensing.
