  • Qt UIs early benchmarks

With the quickly approaching release of the second update to V-Ray 5, i'm at liberty to share some of the results of the work done to translate to native Qt some of the relevant UIs.

This has been done running the Ui redraw in the material editor (i.e. the editor is set to manually update material previews) 100 times for each material and map class, and taking the average.
For nodes, in modify mode, with the default set of rollouts open and visible, across multiple columns, the node is selected and unselected 100 times, and the average is taken.
Times are expressed in milliseconds (1000ms = 1sec).
The test is done on a non-boosting Ryzen 1900x (3.8 Ghz), with an NVidia GTX 1080, at 4K resolution under Max 2022.2.
    MATERIALS Original Qt Factor
    V-Ray Material 1046.16 119.91 8.72X
    V-Ray ALSurface 575.90 109.69 5.25X
    V-Ray 2-sided 65.68 38.92 1.68X
    V-Ray Fast SSS 421.45 86.00 4.90X
    MAPS Original Qt Factor
    V-Ray Color 46.05 22.17 2.07X
    NODES Original Qt Factor
    V-Ray Proxy 454.36 77.14 5.89X
    V-Ray Clipper 84.86 33.76 2.51X
The speed carries over to Slate Material Editor.
Most of the issues with laggy UIs during look-development and material authoring should be cured by these updates, however work is ongoing to remake other key sections of the UI in Qt, and it will come after Update 2.
