  • vray hair with simple planes

I'm new to using vray hair: can it render flat or segmented planes rather than a cylinder?

I'm trying to use it to make grass. Reflections look better as a flat plane than as a curved cylinder so I currently make the grass in another plugin. However, vray hair renders far faster so it'd be great if it worked.

    Thanks,
    Matt

If you use a VRayHairMt on the VRayFur, it will render with flat normals facing the camera instead of the cylindrical look. Is that what you're looking for?

I tried what you suggested, but no, that's not really it. Real grass is basically flat planes (bent on one axis), but various grass blades are rotated from each other so that some you see frontally, some you see (barely) from their very thin side. VRayHairMtl doesn't produce this result. Thanks for the reply but for now I'll use real geometry in a Forest Pack Pro object.
