  • vray 5 - IPR - Light Cache

been having some issues with vray 5 and running IPR. not even on a complex scene. when i have something selected in the scene it will constantly try to build the light cache. i have to unselect anything. then it will start to build and render. any help?

here is screen recording of an example of the issue. https://youtu.be/Q0k1kGFNA1M

    running a 2080 - drivers are updated
    ryzen 2950

    simple setup.
    vray camera
    vray sun
    a couple pbr shaders

I'm having the exact same problem, with the exception that no matter what I do, the light cache is always constatly building in a never-ending loop.

Do you have a 3d Connexion mouse? I just unistalled the software for my 3d mouse and it fixed the issue.

Maxscript callbacks could also initiate the issue, by flagging a change which the user hasn't initiated.
F.e., one could have an "when node selected" one, and on selection of any item in the scene a reaction would occur (it could be of any type, really.).
Ensure you have no such thing running in the background (it can be "installed" by scripts.).

I do indeed have a 3d Connexion mouse. However, if I uninstall the software I am no longer able to configure the buttons...
And a colleague of mine also has this problem, although it's less severe. He doesn't have a 3d Connexion mouse.

Any instanced cameras in the scene?
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Yes, I do have instanced VRayPhysicalCameras. Could that be the source of the issue?

Try making it unique just for the test?

Makes sense. I will try it and report.

Did you find a solution to this? It's just started doing the same thing in one of my files.

Ah, it was the Instanced Camera. Make unique and it's sorted.

Hello! I figured I'd resurrect this thread for some more information.

I had this same issue in a scene, and it was caused by a VRayBlendMtl using a Distance Texture for the blend map. I first narrowed it down to objects with that blend material, then removed objects from the "VrayDistanceTex" object slots, until there were no objects being used by that map.

Both the Base and Coat materials (only 1 of each being used) worked fine on their own in IPR, and they work fine in their slots as a VrayBlendMtl. But as soon as I added a distance texture to the blend map slot, IPR broke and the Light Cache loop happens.

                        Using Max 2022, Vray 5.2.1

Just for anyone else strugging to find an answer!

And also, for the Chaos/Vray bug-squashing team: maybe put this on your list of things to look into? Thanks!

Hey Bowen Studios Thanks for the feedback
I have been trying to reproduce this for some time now without luck. Would it be possible to share your test scene with us?
I will make sure this behavior is solved

GPU LC has been improved massively in the recent builds, on quality and speed mainly.
