  • Can VRAY please store information as meta or EXIF data in rendered files.

Render time would probably be the most useful one.

We have to research if it is possible to pass that information to the 3ds Max JPEG writer. We could write the values of all VFB stamp variables, like we do for OpenEXR files? Would you need anything else (f.e. camera position)?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Personally all the vray stamp variables would be good for me.

I'm not so worried about JPG, PNG or TIF is what I tend to use.

Also, whichever machine rendered when it's render through backburner seems essential.

For me it's more diagnostic an analysis rather than anything else.

Perhaps using one of the existing attributes (like album or author or whatever) so you can sort by machine rendered in Explorer.

Just bumping and replying since not much progress seems to have been made on this and I do actually have an idea for something else.

When you render with a spherical camera, could you write that out somehow as using a spherical camera as EXIF data.

for example, in this tutorial to get panos in Facebook, they say:

Could we automatically write spherical camera data out this way?

In order to share this 360 spherical render on Facebook, you’ll need to change the metadata embedded with your picture. This is because Facebook relies on the metadata of a picture for identifying spherical panoramas taken with 360 cameras.
        1. After saving your render on your hard drive, right-click the file and open its properties (For Windows systems).
        2. Go to the Details panel, scroll down and enter the Camera make as RICOH and the model as RICOH THETA S. This is an actual panorama camera made by Ricoh.
        3. You can also an online tool like Exifer to edit these details.
        4. Now upload and post this spherical shot on Facebook and it should load it with its own panorama viewer.

While writing certain exif data to rendered files, may be useful to some. I think when it comes to posting 360 images to Facebook, I would rather use a simple little program like Exifer to be honest, rather than trying to get V-Ray to do it all for me.

You would rather load up an application, upload your file, manually edit the settings, and then download it again, rather than have Vray automatically add a flag to the file when it outputs the file if "spherical camera" is checked?

I can't see any drawbacks to Vray starting to spit proper EXIF data out, but please explain it to me.

            What a bizarre comment.

I'm sorry, but could you not use an EXR (ideally saved with the raw file output), dump any kind of metadata into it with the optionRE, and then convert to the format you prefer?

                Hmm that's interesting.

Although to be fair, this is the Wishlist forum and I'm wishing for this be something always automatically done by vray in order to save time

Yeah, i meant it as a currently existing workaround/workflow.
Writing exif into any format would still be the right way to do it.

                    +1 for this request.
For us it would be even enough to have the already present metadata within the raw file also in the memory frame buffer saved files (e.g. the max file name that generated it): i know i could save as vrimage and then spit it out with the converter, but then it would be mean processing a second operation with deadline, more disk space, etc.
