  • V-Ray for Substance Painter/Designer

    Hi Guys,

    I have yet another wish offering....hope you like the idea !

    I saw how V-Ray is being integrated into Unreal Engine - So would it be possible to plug it into Substance? - Is it easy to implement?

    The purpose would be to make the closest possible distance between Substance and V-Ray for the Texture/Shader Artist.

    We would just want support for the V-Ray Material with its GGX BRDF and the GTR Tail falloff.

    And also a reminder to Vlado, about that discussion on a map slot for the GTR Tail falloff.

    Thanks so much for all your hard work guys....what do you think of the idea?

    Just as a different thing, someone wrote a tool that creates a live link between substance and max / maya / modo, see if it works for you! https://gumroad.com/l/jKmeF

      Oh and on a second note, I thiiiiiink that substance uses GLSL as the language for it's shaders and that the vray for maya install includes a copy of the vray material in glsl?

          We've had some discussions with Allegorithmic, but things didn't get anywhere. There is no public SDK for Substance Painter/Designer, so there isn't much that we can do on our end. I would suggest that you contact them as well. Compare that to Epic, who were extremely helpful and supportive.

            That's disappointing. I have contacted them just then using the contact form on their website

            Who is Epic? do they make Unreal Engine or do you mean Epic Games?

              It does indeed use GLSL. I've looked for the vray glsl file (trial version for both maya and vray though, not sure if that makes any difference) and couldn't find it. Any pointers as to how I could find it give it a try in Substance?
