  • Bake Vector Displacement

Can you bake Vector Displacement in Maya?

    like max's VRayVectorDisplBake.
    https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ectorDisplBake

This is necessary because V-Ray does not support Vector Displacement map of ZBrush.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't think that we support this anywhere outside 3ds max and in 3ds max it is tied to some specific tools that will probably not be very easy to port elsewhere.

you could use mudbox for baking like most do...
just import the highres and do a rebuild subD...

Is there a solution for users who do not have the mudbox license?
(It may be possible with xNormal. MUDBOX is certainly cheap.)

What I feel problematic is that Arnold and RIS can do and only V-Ray can not apply Vector displacement map of ZBrush.

ZBrush is the de facto standard for sculpting.
        There are many users.

ChaosGroup should describe the code of displacement map that can correspond to ZBrush's VDM.
Or Chaos should provide own VDM bake engine.

I found a forum thread that has a lot of useful information on the topic: https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...r-displacement
Here's a couple of suggsted posts from that thread: https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...388#post590388 and https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...717#post614717
There might be some UV cracks with this method, though, so it's not absolutely perfect, just keep that in mind.
