  • v 3.6 lags down the whole computer

    Hi,

I've been using Vray for Rhino for a long time, and recently upgraded from 3.5 to 3.6. I always been able to work while rendering on my workstation, but after the new upgrade this is impossible. Vray takes all computer power, and using webbrowser or simple mail software is impossible. Are there any possibilites to control this? (Low Thread Priority) Or is there coming a fix for this?

    Hello, Ivar,
Thank you for posting this. There shouldn't be any difference in the overall resource usage between v3.40.03 and v.3.60.01.
Could you please send me a PM or an email at support@chaosgroup.com describing what is your OS and computer specs, as well as more detailed info when exactly the slowdown appears - the moment the render is initiated or only after loading the scene and the prepass calculations are complete? Furthermore, what render mode are you using and does the issue occur only with specific projects?

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Hi, I recently wrote you from a different account (user: ivarheggheim / email: ivar@jaja.dk). I have changed workplace so I am writing from this account from my new workplace.

I wrote to you about an issue I have with the new version of vray compared to the previous. I have the issue that my computer is completely useless when its rendering. This happens with all the files I had no issues with before on the previous version. I sent a test file for you to look into the problem. But I do not have access to the old email account I wrote to you from. (ivar@jaja.dk). Is it possible for you to send the servicereport you sent to ivar@jaja.dk, to my new email: ivar.heggheim@asplanviak.no

      Best Regards

I updated my machines from 3.4 to 3.6 over the past week. Some of what is being said here is now appearing on my main design workstation.

I can launch a render just using vray.exe (not through rhino) and occasionally when i launch something like Chrome while rendering I get a total mouse/keyboard system freeze and have to bang on ctrl + alt +delete a few times before it comes back to life.

This was not happening on this system before 3.6.

Same here, for example during a rendering is running the mouse movement lags. Strong lag during IM pass. During LC pass some lag, but the LC pass is running at nearly 80% CPU usage only (jumping up and down). Beauty pass is no problem.

We are looking into the possible causes for this. Hoping to have this resolved in time for v3.60.02. Any additional details about the slowdown would be appreciated!

            Kind regards,
            Peter

Hi Peter, this issue has plagued v-ray since version 2.0 for Rhino. I've heard it blamed on everything from logitech drivers to the version of python you guys use. Not sure I can come up with anything new other than the same old "it either happens on your system or it doesnt".

                Hi,

I have now tested the new update, but the problem still persists with heavy lag. Have you looked into the issue?

You are correct, the issue persists in the latest v3.60.02.
The dev team is aware of it,however, we do not yet have a solution to offer. Will reply in this forum thread as soon as I've got news to share.

                  Kind regards,
                  Peter

If the issue still persists, try the environment variable VRAY_NUM_THREADS with a value of one less than your total number of CPU threads. Let me know if there's any difference!

                    Kind regards,
                    Peter

You can add it through the Windows Environment Variables menu. If you do not feel comfortable editing such settings, send an email at support@chaosgroup.com with reference to this forum thread and my colleagues will provide further assistance.

                        Kind regards,
