  • Bring back the old color picker!

    Dear Developers,
please re-assign the old color picker we used in previous versions!
Or (as neither one is implemented in Vray but rather taken from either Rhino or Windows) at least let the user choose which one they want, maybe? Would be an easy thing to do, I believe (right-clicking the

Just look at the differences in Hue/Sat/Val values for the same RGB...
Also, under the Windows color picker, Valmax=240 instead of 255.

    Best,
    Matthias

Unlike V-Ray 3.4 which uses the defaut Windows color picker, the v3.6 update will be shipping with our own V-Ray Color Picker.
It was recently implemented in V-Ray 3.6 for SketchUp: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAYSKETCHUP/User+Interface#UserInterface-V-RayColorPicker

    Kind regards,
    Peter

        Hi Matthias,

V-Ray 3.6 for Rhino is out.
You can download it and test the new color picker.

        Regards,
        Konstantin

Thank you Konstantin for the update!
Yea, the colour picker rocks, I love the new range and memory slot options (you could include a tooltip explaining how to save a colour into one of the slots - it took me a while to figure out that it's the right mouse button...)

Only installing the new version initially screwed up our material database - everything got deleted... luckily I wrote a backup script earlier. You have to keep an eye on custom folders during installation, it makes people sick to lose their files!
Also, it takes a Rhino restart to show new folders (C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for Rhinoceros 5\materials\xyz) in the Asset Editor. At least, it recognised all associated bitmaps (contained in a sub-folder under ..\xyz\maps) without the need to re-assign them. Thanks for the latter!
Oh boy, I sincerely wish for a proper solution to user-defined materials/database...

          Best,
          Matthias

The new color Picker looks very good, thank you! Could you please add HEX colors input?

You can also drag and drop from Previous/Current to the empty slots.

Also for me the new color picker looks very good. Could be possible to get a pipette function? So, I could quick pick up colors from color libraries or design manuals.

It is currently not possible to add a cross-window eyedropper tool. This may be introduced later on.

                Kind regards,
