  • Materials invisible when using Skatter's "Render only" feature

There is something weird going on in V-Ray Next with Skatter and proxies
When using proxies, some textures are not at the right size when enabling the "Render only" feature in Skatter, but they are rendered correctly when disabling it (the instances are actually generated in the model).

I thought it could be related to the issue we already talked about, when a 2sided material and its base material have different dimensions in the SketchUp properties.
I made sure the multi-material, 2sided material, and base material have the same dimensions, and the issue persists.

This seems to happen only with proxies.

    Here is how to reproduce:
    - Open the Skatter Library
    - Load "Trees 01" as Proxies
    - Pick a host surface
    - Enable "Render only", generate and render -> materials are bad
    - Disable "Render only", regenerate and render -> materials are good

This makes us look really bad, as people think this is an issue in Skatter itself We've had quite a few people reporting this issue to us.

    Hello, Thomas,
Our devs are already notified of the issue you have illustrated.
It is related to the change in V-Ray's material size management that was discussed at https://discourse.chaosgroup.com/t/b...rial-uv-issue/ .
I was informed you already have an ongoing correspondence with konstantin_chaos regarding this issue. To make sure we resolve this in the best way possible, please follow up on the private discussion you two have in discourse.chaosgroup.com

    Kind regards,
    Peter

If that's ok, I'd prefer to continue here in public, as I can refer our users to this thread to explain the situation.
If it's not ok, you guys can contact me in private.

So, is there something we can do on our side? Or is this issue going to be fixed purely in V-Ray?

      Thanks,
      Thomas

Apologies for the lack of update since last week. Our dev team is currently working on a fix. It is not, as initially suggested, caused by the material size management.
The solution will be entirely on our side.

        Kind regards,
        Peter
