  • Spot lights require high intensity value to have any affect. Thoughts?

I have some windows on either side of my room with rectangle lights set to 100 intensity, they look nice enough but I needed some artificial light within the room. When I placed the spotlights I had to crank the intensity up to over 100,000 to see any noticeable difference. This doesn't seem right to me, any thoughts?

    Hello,

Could you please send the project to support@chaosgroup.com so we can inspect this issue in detail?
If this is alright, please export an archive copy via Pack Project option(Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project) and send it as an attachment or upload it to a file-sharing service of your choice

Thank you for the provided file!

The main reason why the spotlights are barely visible is because the overall environment is bright enough and the camera exposure adjusted to it.
The Exposure Value is set to 10.92 which is too high for a small light source such as a spotlight to make any difference in an interior shot.
This could be compared to using a flashlight(even a powerful one) at midday - it just will not make much of a difference.
In order for the spotlight to make an impact on the scene every other light source should be darker(like in a sunset environment) and the Exposure Value should be lowered accordingly.
For reference exposure values please check the following link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposu...as_Circles.png
Additionally, the spotlights are visible they just have a wide Penumbra Angle and they blend seamlessly with the light entering the scene from outside.

Alternatively, you can use the new Auto-Exposure functionality, as demonstrated in https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ive+Dome+Light
