  • Material with reflections not showing up in MIRRORS

Can someone tell me what I'm going wrong here? All hardware that appears black in mirror reflection - door knobs, shower fixtures, etc., are all some type of metal material with high IOR and reflectivity. I don't remember running into this problem before....has me scratching my head. Thanks!

    Hello,
Is this rendered on CPU or GPU?
Could you please use Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project and send over the archived scene for investigation by either mailing it directly at support@chaosgroup.com or through a file-sharing service of your choice (and link it in a PM or email).

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hey Peter,

Will do. This was rendered on CPU , w/ Irr Map/Light Cache, bucket(not progressive).

I'll email to support. Thank you!

Hi, Do you have enough max depth settings? Standard is 5 but maybe you need more? You can find these in the reflection channel of the mirror material.

Hey Peerman, thanks for the recommendation, but as you can from the pictures, this is a problem with reflectivity of a material not showing up in a reflection. Which I think would only be 1 reflection bounce to show the material in the mirror and possibly 1 more bounce to show the reflections in the material....I just confused myself and brain is hurting now - the reason I do what I do and not writing code. Anyway, the reflection depth would deal with the whole reflection...I think. I remember having to set huge reflection depth settings when having mirrors on opposing walls and having the 'infinite reflection' scenario. I will check and play around with it next time I am rendering out scene. I haven't done any trouble shooting yet, I sent renderings to client and blamed on Chaos Group.

Speak of the devil....just received response from Support....I'll post below for anyone else who runs into this problem:

            -----------
            Hi Greg,

The reason objects are rendered with a black diffuse in reflections is due to the 'Max Trace Depth' parameter. You could apply it globally to the scene within Asset Editor > Settings > Raytrace (switch to advanced settings) > Optimizations > Max Trace Depth.
For this scene a value of 8 produces correct results.

Should you require further assistance, please let us know!

Sure thing! Yeah, I believe it was the same setting you had recommended that solved, they just pointed out the option to adjust globally, too. Thanks again for the help!
