  • Proxy files larger than original

    Hi,

I've been creating proxies of 3D people models for my team to use at work. To keep it as simple as possible for them I am exporting the proxy and replacing the original mesh in the SKP file, then saving that as a separate SKP file so that they can simply import that file with the materials/textures and scale intact rather than import the VRMESH file and have to scale and remake the materials each time.

The thing I've noticed is that the SKP file with the proxy in it is larger than the SKP file with the original mesh (see attached image, original mesh file was the 100k one)... should it not be significantly smaller as I thought this was largely the advantage along with increased view port performance?

    Cheers,

    Mitch

Comparatively I just imported the original mesh over to 3DS Max to created the same setup... the MAX file with the proxy is significantly smaller than the MAX file with the original mesh.

The VRMESH file from max is also about half that of the SketchUp one and I set up the preview mesh parameters to be the same.

      Hi,

Try to offload the texture for the SketchUp file, this Tutorial may help you, also you could use Vrscene instead of proxies for these type of objects inside SketchUp, it's much stable and offload all the materials out of SketchUp.

        Hello, Mitch.

When you have created the V-Ray Proxy, you must have retained the original component(s) out of which the .vrmesh file was made. Even though only the proxy file remains in the viewport, the now unused components still reside in the .skp. To reduce the proxy project file size, simply open the Components tray and delete that is no longer used.
The difference should be noticeable. Here's an example: Click image for larger version Name:	proxy_size_test.jpg Views:	1 Size:	12.7 KB ID:	988666

        Kind regards,
        Peter

Edit: if you wish the .skp file to contain solely the V-Ray Proxy component, it is safe to use Window > Model Info > Purge Unused. In complex projects, it is advisable to clean them manually.
