  • M.2 vs SSD Does it affect render time ?

Right now i have a 128GB SSD and i was thinking of upgrading to a M.2 EVO 500GB

Will i get faster rendering speeds ?

I haven't done testing of this, but I wouldn't think it would make a huge difference in rendering itself. And you have to make sure both of your motherboard and EVO are NVME. Otherwise, it is just the same.
Although I have been thinking about this too, as not having to route cables for SSD is so much nicer!

From my understanding of the software i don't think it will make much difference to the speed of the renders as that process uses CPU and GPU. But should improve the speed of your computer in general, loading models faster is always a plus. I dont know if this would have any impact on the initiation of the render? Building Scene, exporting textures, etc? but the actual process of rendering i doubt it.

I cannot comment on any particular hardware component models. However, as matthewg already wrote, SSD read/write speeds affect mainly reading the geometry and all other assets, cached GI maps, writing output files, etc. Do not expect major difference in the render process - should be a noticeable upgrade only if you often work with very heavy models.
For render speed improvements you main focus should be on the processing units (https://www.chaosgroup.com/vray/benchmark can be of use in this case).

        Kind regards,

Thank you to all for the replies, i did buy a 960 Evo 500GB cause it wasn't much more expensive then a SSD, my MoBo is an asrock x370 taichi, so it is NVME compatible. Will post a review when i install it.
