  • Support for SubD and WrapR

    Hi

SubD is a subdvision plugin which could produce high quality organic mesh in a parametric way (http://evilsoftwareempire.com/subd)

WrapR is a UVunwrap Plugin for Sketchup which could make uvunwraping easily within Sketchup, and fully compatible with SubD (http://www.wrap-r.com/)

What I want to suggest is :

    1. Assign subdvidvision level to a mesh via object property panel, and apply subdivision level to a mesh in render

    2. An option available in the Vrproxy export panel, which could assgin control mesh as preview vrmesh in the Sketchup viewport

    3. Render to texture feature fully support WrapR,then users can bake light information which could be used in game engines(as it will take a long time for users to wait Vray for Unreal)

4.The ability to bake normal map of the high-res mesh, which could be used for low-res mesh as it will be a huge ram saver for Sketchup

5.Ability to convert mesh file(fbx、obj) to alembic proxy file in Ply2vrmesh which can be subdivide in render

+1 on the render-time subdivisions for geometry. That would be great!

      Hello, Shiyan,

Thank you for posting this list of suggestions!

Regarding official support for SubD and WrapR, there are no current plans to do this.
As for the rest of your question:

      1. This is something we are probably not going to implement.
      2. Enhanced V-Ray Proxy creation options will be available in the next V-Ray for SketchUp feature update.
      3. We are exploring some options for texture baking but at this point I cannot offer any further info.
      4. Not something that has been discussed at all, but I'll pass it along to the Dev team.
      5. Again, I'll pass this suggestion along to the Dev team.
When using the Ply2Vrmesh tool, you can set options like "-subdivisionLevel". You can find the full list of options at https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...%7C+ply2vrmesh

      Kind regards,
      Peter

        Hi,Peter
        Thanks for your reply!
I have a question : without UVunwrap, how can you bake textures? Is that means, you are developing a method which could handle messy native sketchup uv message?
Can you share any info? It seems unbelievable!

As I mentioned, we are still only exploring options. It is no small task and not really possible based only on the current tools we have in SketchUp.
Will post an update whenever we have something to show.

            Kind regards,
            Peter

In 2007 someone had requested the render-time subdivisions for geometry in this thread, so most of us hope to see this feature in the next releases for V-ray SketchUp.

Also, it's something that's available in the V-Ray core. I do hope the devs consider it, especially with the polygon limits in SU. On the other hand, it could be one of those things that serve to differentiate vfs as a step-child of the V-Ray family

When this feature will be implemented, Sketchup and V-ray will make a chaos in the 3d industry

Turns out there is something we could do to implement object subdivision at render. Will provide more info at a later date.

                    Kind regards,
