  • [FR] Change Material type

Let's I have a leaf material applied to a plant.
But that material is a generic one. I want to add translucency to it. So I need to wrap it into a new TwoSided material and swap them in the model.

Same if I want to make a material emissive, carpaint, SSS, VRscan, etc. We have to create a new material and replace the old one in the model. This is quite tedious.

What if we could right-click on a material and change its type? Just like in 3dsmax.
Ideally parameters that can be translated are kept, but I think it doesn't matter if we loose all parameters and end up with a blank material.

Alternatively, an option to wrap the current material in a new Blend, Bump, TwoSided, Toon, MultiMaterial, Override or Wrapper, and automatically replace it in the model.

If we could get the Slate Editor in Vray for Sketchup it would be a game changer.

But I guess that's actually part of Max and not Chaos Group code....so it's probably a tall order. Any plans to implement a 'slate' style graph editor for VFSU?

My colleague, Konstantin, already replied to a very similar post:

Here is a short video demonstrating what you can do with the presets:

There are a lot of issues which may arise from such implementation. The current one, although requiring a few more clicks, provides a robust and dependable solution. Nevertheless, no design is final. Improving and simplifying the UI without sacrificing functionality is one of our main goals.

The team likes the idea but it is not achievable in a short amount of time. When more possible solutions are explored we might have more info to share. This is in no way confirmation of the V-Ray for SketchUp roadmap, but rather a statement that we're not in a hurry to dismiss any possible features.

      Kind regards,
      Peter
