  • Is LC supported in Vray RT CPU standalone?

    Hi,

Like everybody else these days we are exploring ways to use GPU Rendering in production. I came across a bit confusing situation:
    • A simple scene, RT CPU as production renderer in 3ds max. GI: LC/LC, in-process RT engine running locally: Everything is ok.
    • Same scene, RT CPU as production renderer in 3ds max. GI: LC/LC, seperate-process RT engine running locally: Everything is still ok.
    • Same scene exported as vrscene, rendered with vray standalone in CPU (-rtEngine=1) mode. this time No LC calculated.
I though ok maybe in the first example LC is calculated in 3dsmax.exe process then passed to in process RT engine. But in second example a full fledge vray.exe is used to render. So why third one is failing? Is is this a known issue? it is kind of puzzling.

BTW I am redirecting vray.exe output to a separate log. (in -verboseLevel=4) there is not an entry for calculation light cache in that log as well

    Regards,

    Hi,

Can you attach here or send that max file to support@chaosgroup.com ? I would like to test and see if this is reproducible.

      Hi Tashko,

Sure you can find attached scene files (max and vrscene)

Max scene renders ok. Vrscene -rtEngine=1 does not. BTW i can reproduce same result with every scene if I let vray.exe render it with -rtEngine=1 (CPU). CUDA is working fine.

Thanks! Actually we have a fix for this in the next release. Do you need this working for your current project or you are just testing the RT functionality ? Do you have access to the stable nightly builds?

          Hi Tashko,

No we dont't have access to those. Just testing how to add GPU rendering to pipeline but it might be useful to acesss nightly builds see what other things are in the works or fixed to plan ahead.

          Glad I could help.

          Best Regards,
