  • simplex noise support?

    Hi there,

    Simplex noise showed up as a great noise alternative in the most recent Maya 2016 extension. Does anyone know if or when this will be supported? When I try to use it I get this warning: "Unsupported texture simplexNoise".

    This is already supported in the nightly builds and will go into the next official service pack. If you want to use it now, we can get you access to the nightly builds.

          I'd like to try this as well but we are on a project using Maya 2015, is this a 2016 only feature or is it more Vray side implementation?

            Simplex noise is a new feature released in the first extension for Maya 2016. Just in case, there's a cool demo here starting 6 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VogxiBjTHE

              Well, the V-Ray shader itself is also in builds for older Maya versions, but it must be created manually as a texture from a V-Ray plugin.

                Basically wanted to know if I get a nightly build for this for 2015 if I can use it is all. It sounds like I could since Vlado says it is a menu or command line created shader/texture.

                  You can create it from create > vray > create from plugin > texture. The UI won't be 100% the same as the node we wrote for 2016ext, but it should work. It's basically a node for our implementation of that texture.
