  • Saving light cache is very slow - around 20kb per second

In Vray 3.60.01 I have noticed the light cache now takes a very long time to save - it just took 16 minutes to write a 43mb .vrlmap!

    A few more details:
    Animated camera.
The light cache is calculated along with the IR map using DR with "use camera path" enabled.
The files are being written to a network file share.
The vrlmap is slow to write but the irradiance map (50mb) is written instantly, as expected.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Olly

Can you attach or send your file to support@chaosgroup.com Olly ? So we can test this issue here.

This was supposed to be improved for 3.6, so it's a bit odd. If you can send a repro case to Tashko it will be very helpful.

      Best regards,

UPDATE!! Saving to :C drive solves the problem. It's not ideal but works for now

We are experiencing exactly the same problem with 3.6 and Maya 2018
Light cache reading & writing on network location is extremely slow.
Only workaround right now for local cluster is to mirror Light Cache to local drives on render nodes.
Still not practical for sending scenes to external renderfarms

This is a major issue for us and we'd appreciate any help !

We have the same issue here.. It is really annoying..I haven't tested saving to local drive but that an additional step I'd prefer to skip.

Ok, will investigate if there is anything else we can do.

                Best regards,
